M.A. Photography

Hi. Welcome to my portfolio. Thank you for stopping by.

Photography has taken me to 145 countries and territories and on countless "trips of a lifetime." Along the way, I've learned much about the world and my place in it. Most people are good and gracious, and they are curious about and welcoming to far-flung visitors such as myself. Much of my energy and inspiration for my work is drawn from these kind souls and unique opportunities.

Primarily a documentary photographer, my work has largely specialized in Jewish life and culture worldwide. For more information, please visit HaChayim HaYehudim Jewish Photo Library. Yet, I have photographed and written about wide-ranging subject matter from travel to World War II, doll collecting/making to the human form , architecture to live music gigs/concerts and private events.

My work — both images and words — has been published in numerous notable newspapers, magazines and 20 books including Hadassah Magazine, ShemotForward, The Jewish Telegraph (UK), The Los Angeles Times, The Boston Globe, The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, The Wall Street Journal, The Miami Herald, The Toronto Sun, The New Zealand Herald, The South China Morning Post, The Scotsman, The Japan Times, Photo Life Magazine, Popular Photography Magazine, and Doll Making Magazine.

Books featuring my photographs include The Knell of Parting Day; Encyclopedia of the Jewish Diaspora; Belisario: Sketches of Character; The Holocaust: A Guide for Students and Teachers; Alchemy of the Soul: The Life of Artist Kalman Aron After the Holocaust; Newport Jewry and the Touro SynagogueJewish Heritage of the Deccan: Mumbai, the Northern Konkan, Pune; Alexander Hamilton: A Founding Father’s Visionary Genius—and His Tragic Fate;  A Fine Prospect: A History of Remuera, Meadowbank and St Johns and Jamaica: Heritage in Pictures. Additionally, I have presented my work at conferences, synagogues, and events.
